Bringing hope to the Dominican Republic

Compassion Services International was excited to be able to send volunteers to the Dominican Republic this summer. Thank you for your continued support which makes it possible for CSI to help those in need around the globe.

The team arrived on August 13, 2012. The first night was spent doing inventory of supplies and packing for the first clinic on August 14, 2012. After a long travel day the team needed a good nights sleep.

On August 14, 2012 the team set out to hold a medical clinic at Hope Of A Child Orphanage. On the way the team stopped at two local pharmacies to get some additional medication to treat those infected with parasites. Parasite infections are a common occurrence in the Dominican Republic. After a 2 1/2 hour trip the team made it to Hope of A Child. The clinic was able to set up four stations to see patients. The patients were able to get their vitals taken along with a Glucose screen. Then they  went to see the doctor and if medication was needed they were sent to the pharmacy area. While the team focused on treating the children they also made a point to examine the workers. Before leaving, the team distributed toys and candy to the children and Mark Hattabaugh even made balloon animals much to the delight of the children. One little boy who was coloring tried to give his coloring book back as the team left. He was so excited to learn that it was his to keep.
Once the team returned home it was time to recap the day and pack for the next clinic.[...]
